The font UniF was designed to eliminate the differenciation between upper and lower case letters. But still the aim was to have the font work for headlines as well as for copy type. A rule was set to decide which letter will remain upper and which will remain lower case: All letters with lower case ascenders and descenders were set in upper case whereas the remaining ones were left lower case.
To every rule there is an exception: the lower case "r" was to weak to keep up with the others and was changed to upper case. Therefore the name was simple. The "uniform font" became "UniF".
UniF recieved the "Certificate of Excellence" from the Type Directors Club in 1998.
